Sorry about the typos/grammar. Type ":D!" for the TL;DR version of the comment.
I really like your character. Let me think about something better to say.
The environment has lots of great things going on in it...is it an alternate reality/mental place? (I know nothing about Persona.) It's kind of weird that there's no people, but I'd rather see the streets than the population to better see the place's construction. It's really well drawn, by the way. The bridge and fencing look really solid and believable. Something about the ferris wheel is sort of bothering me, though... I feel like there should be more reinforcements in the bars holding the seats. I know this is a WIP, so if I say something you're already thinking about...sorry...
The type for the place and the "water" lamposts are really confidently handled, but not so much for the shop. It looks like you were looking off something rather than trying to treat it as a language...if that makes sense. Maybe it would help if you thought about how you would treat the type system in English, then follow the same rules in construction the different strokes of the characters. We have a Roman/Latin system, but there are sorts of rules (i.e. "O" is round, non-angular, fully connected, etc etc). Uh, but it's not *that* important. Just looked out of place with all the wonderful other details you have...
Such as the balloons. I kind of want to see more of that, even though it's the outside of Nautical Land. Or maybe a hint of other weird souvenirs inside the park?
Y'know, Kat...your character kind of makes me think of you for some reason. I think it might by the small pointed chin and freckles. It's not a bad thing, just kind of funny, heh. I like the morning star's design and the ribbon around her arm.
Oh, I thought of something constructive to say/ask about. In the game, do weapons materialize out of nowhere/of magical means? It would be weird/illegal if she carried it around at school, I think. Maybe if there was a cloth sack it stayed in, so she could sneak it in? Just something to consider.
:D!
TL;DR version - Ferris wheel might need more reinforcements - Be confident with the wording. It's hard when you don't know the language too well, but I know you can do it. Your "shui" character looks really solid and nice. - Are there any more fun fun souvenirs in Nautical Land? I kind of want to see more - How does she carry her morning star in school? Hammer space? In her locker?
Thanks Julia. You had some very good points. -yeah, the ferris wheel isn't looking so solid. -About the type, I honestly just looked at some pictures of japanese theme park restaurants and put down some shapes that looked vaguely like the characters in their signs. I guess I should do some more research and actually string together a real japanese name for my shop and actually draw the characters properly. -It WOULD be really cool to see more crazy souvenirs. I will try to add as many as I can! -I can totally see where you're coming from about the resemblance. I was thinking she looked more like Julian Nicholson from Law&Order, but I do think I tend to draw most of my characters with faces similar to mine(particularly similar noses). I need to keep that in mind and add more face variation in the future.
