Just so I don't end up forgetting to post some part of my homework. Here is where my work is at so far, environment and character. I'm working on them all together to try and make sure i can get them to be a little more cohesive. I'm going to try and whip up some nice little animations for them as well. I felt like the roughest part of this character was her motions and how people would see her animate in game and how the Kirin and her would interact through out exploring and fighting in their world.

Find function - type :D! to find the "TL;DR version"
Is the unicorn at its actual size next to her? If you want to show us that, a little more interaction between the two might be required (nothing too interfering, if that makes any sense). Or you could just make shadow people. I know this is a WIP, though. Since the landscape she's walking around seems really fresh and muted (simultaneously, somehow) perhaps some bright accents (perhaps her ring is meticuously polished and simply smooth, unlike the rest of her), or the threads that tie her up, etc) might bring her out a bit more. I really do love your landscape painting. Even though it appears to be daybreak, it's simultaneously beautiful and dreary. (imho)
I think it's good that her color palette matches that of her "haunting ground", but maybe some bright tassels on her storage could help. I feel that in a certain light, she might blend in with some of the scenery, which I think is natural of the average warrior, so something more saturated or something bright could help give us a hint, allow us to identify more with the POV of the hero. I don't know if this is the impression you wanted, but I get the feeling from her, that she's a quirky person, maybe somewhat "deliquent", but she has a very firm sense of justice, a trait that might appear brutal to even fellow warriors. She may have done some amazing things in the past, but at the end of the day, she goes home and sleeps in a half-made bed like everyone else. Or perhaps that's just me.
Don't forget material callouts. It looks like you wrote some notes in the bottom left, but I may be reading them incorrectly; as I said to Ari, English is not my strong suit. I would like to see some poses of her moving, especially in combat since older people are not known for their agility. Maybe she's a rad sambo master, that stuff is brutal, and not necessarily "quick". The postue and shape of the character is really great, but I want to see her reactions in a field that is primarily dominated by younger people. I'd also like to see interactions with her pact beast, since they're pretty interconnected by the game universe's standards.
Oh, btw...What did she give up? If you don't want to reveal just yet, that's all right. Oh, and imho, I think that she should have something on her neck. Doesn't have to be fancy, or crazy impractical, like a cape, but I feel like that amount of skin is a little gratuitous. I don't mind that she's older, but since it's used in younger female characters, I feel like it's doing the same thing to your character - trying to emphasize feminine characteristics. Breaking up that space with something like a necklace, scarf, something (you don't have to cover her breasts completely) will help, I think.
Sorry about all the typos!
:D!
TL;DR version
- Don't forget the size reference: shadow people, some poses of the two together, etc.
- She might benefit from some bright accents, to mark a hint of her in her landscape. She's just an ordinary warrior, so I feel giving her a costume with noisy, saturated colors would be overbearing.
- Material callouts? I think I see them...not sure.
This is badass, Taylor!
