This guy looks pretty cool and its nice to see some other people trying out the gray scale technique, i should post a demo or something. (hmmm...)

there are some really awesome parts of this piece, like the little details in the bolt action rifle and the knot in the strap of his shoulder bag. I think what would really sell the character is using those details all around, and just bringing a lot of the parts to polish. In the hands and coat id love to see the details of the face and gun.

As far as using the gray scale technique its a little harder than a lot of people think and the key to it is knowing what your colors look like in gray scale. Colors like yellow are almost a pale gray, where as red tends to be almost black, and same for blue. What helps me when i work in gray scale is having an image that was in color, shifted to gray so that when i look to see, how dark is my bright red, when it is colorless.

Its a little tough to do but with a little practice its not too hard.
